Caitlin Wood, PhD

Dr. Caitlin Wood is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at 3-C Family Services. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families using a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming lens. A double graduate from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a B.S. in Psychology and Spanish and a Ph.D. in School Psychology, she completed her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship with Virginia Beach City Public Schools where she served as a school psychologist. There she provided school-based mental health support, psychoeducational assessments, and crisis evaluations for elementary, middle, and high school students.

During her graduate school training, Dr. Wood completed clinical externship rotations in a variety of treatment settings. She conducted psychoeducational assessments and implemented social-emotional interventions at local public and charter K-12 schools. At 3-C Family Services, Dr. Wood co-led social-emotional skills groups with children in grades K-5. She provided acute in-patient psychological services on the child unit at Central Regional Hospital. Dr. Wood then gained specialized clinical experience with children and adolescents with OCD, anxiety, and tic disorders at the Duke Child Development and Behavioral Health Clinic. Most recently, she provided adoption-informed assessment and therapy services with the Post-Adoption Support Services team at the Center for Child and Family Health.

Dr. Wood strives to create a warm and welcoming therapeutic setting, with a focus on inclusivity and respect for each individual’s unique strengths. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in connection, regulation, and felt safety, and she works collaboratively with youth and families to strengthen relationships and create space for healing and growth. Her clinical care incorporates targeted evidence-based practices, involving a blend of cognitive behavioral (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing, adapted behavioral therapies) and trauma-informed theories and practices (e.g., theories related to nervous system stress response and the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) framework). Particular areas of clinical interest include emotion dysregulation, ADHD and other types of neurodivergence, anxiety and mood disorders, attachment disruptions, and trauma.
