Megan Deaver is a licensed psychologist who works with children and adolescents using a cognitive behavioral therapy approach to treatment. She has experience treating individuals with ADHD, anxiety, depression, behavioral and adjustment difficulty, as well as developmental disorders. Dr. Deaver has extensive assessment experience, particularly in providing developmental assessments for children suspected of having autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Deaver received her undergraduate degree and Master of Arts in teaching from James Madison University. She spent three years as a middle school inclusion teacher before returning to graduate school to complete a Masters of Education in School Psychology from the College of William and Mary and her doctoral degree in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
During her training, Dr. Deaver provided in-home therapy services to children and adolescents with co-occurring developmental and mental health concerns. She was a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) fellow at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities. She also received training in Wake County Public Schools, where she completed assessments and provided therapeutic, behavioral, and academic interventions.
Dr. Deaver completed her predoctoral internship in pediatric neuropsychology, during which she also conducted preschool evaluations and comprehensive diagnostic assessments of individuals suspected of having autism spectrum disorder. She also provided therapy to individuals in a Supportive Therapeutic Education Program and consulted with families and teachers regarding behavioral interventions. Dr. Deaver completed her postdoctoral training at Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development, where she worked as part of a research team exploring the efficacy of umbilical cord blood for improving outcomes of children with autism. She most recently worked in the Developmental Pediatrics Department at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia.
